WEEK 4: THE LECTURE This weeks lecture was about enhancing business intelligence using information services. The lecture made the case why businesses need business intelligence . It introduced the concept of big data, which deals with how a business gather and analyse information from internal and external sources so as to make better informed decisions. The lecture analysed the opportunities, threats and requirements of  gathering and managing data for businesses. The lecture further dealt with management of data with databases and business intelligence. There is also the part of using data warehouses for businesses that are data intense. WEEK 3 : REFLECTIONS ON MIS LECTURE AND SEMINAR

1. REFLECTION ON THE MIS LECTURE AND SEMINAR THE LECTURE: This weeks lecture was on managing information systems infrastructure and services. The dealt with the whole breadth of infrastructure from systems hardware (personal computers, workstations, servers, mainframes and supercomputers), systems and applications softwares, networks (local area networks (LAN) up to wide area networks (WAN), internet and worldwide web (www) and cloud computing. The lecturer was emphatic that cloud computing is the future. We also dealt with issues and challenges of managing information systems infrastructure such as software obsolence, storage needs, space and facility requirements, energy consumption and demand fluctuations. THE SEMINAR: The seminar built on the MS Excel excercises we started last week. In this week's seminar we covered excercises on typing and correcting, formatting and formulas. WEEK 2: MIS LECTURE AND SEMINAR

1. REFLECTION ON THE MIS LECTURE AND SEMINAR I was absent at this weeks lecture as I had a hospital appointment. I did email the lecture to take permission This week's seminar started with group presentations on how to analyse a business case. Each group representative make presentation on what they understand is a business case, the role of an analyst, the typical steps required to analyse a business case and what is involved in the previous steps. This seminar clarified requirements and pointed us in the right direction towards working on our group business case project. The second part of the seminar dealt with data entry and the use of formulas in excel. We did an excercise starting with a blank workbook. We proceeded with data inputs and calculating the datas using different formulas. The formulas we dealt with included additions, find averages, counting, finding the largest and smallest numbers, multiplications, divisions, percentages, and using "Show Formula" ...

WEEK 1 (ONE)

WEEK 1 1. REFLECTION ON MIS LECTURE AND SEMINAR The Week 1 MIS lecture featured the introduction to the Management and Information Systems module and the week 1 lecture. The MIS lecture sessions will be taugth by Haider Zuhair Bilal. The seminars will be led by Susie Wolstenholme. During the lecture we had an overview of the Module Guide which detailed the course content and descriptions, the learning outcomes, how the module is assessed and how to access learning resources. The teaching session was on the "21st Century Challenges for Organisations". This details how changes in trends and technology is impacting business outcomes. The seminar session was led by  Susie Wolstenholme. We were allocated into seminar groups of fives. We were introduced into creating the Youtube and Blogger accounts and entries.
