WEEK 8: REFLECTIONS ON THE LECTURES AND SEMINAR

WEEK 8- LECTURE: This weeks lecture was on Business Models in the Digital World. This lecture dealt with how organisations and information technology influence one another. We look at the different organisational structures and how information systems impacts decision making, support business processes, enable organisational strategy and competitive advantage. SEMINAR: This weeks seminar is on using Pivot Tables in Excel to present information in a report format. We did an exercise containing school marks for two students and presenting the result in a report format. GROUP WORK: This week we started collating our group work into a PowerPoint presentation. We worked as a team in this weeks seminar session to progress on the presentation collection.

WEEK 7: REFLECTIONS ON MIS LECTURE AND SEMINAR

WEEK 7 : LECTURE This weeks lecture took us through the requirements for the group assignment and how to make our work standout. We went through the focus of the business case which include: introduction to the assignment and the business case, identify the problems the business is having, identify three problems and suggest three solutions, suggest and expand on one best solution and draw conclusions based on that. A good presentation software like Prezi is to be used to make the business case look professional. We were then required to make the group present the work and this is required to be video recorded. THE SEMINAR: The weeks seminar is scenarios in Excel using the "What-If-Analysis" feature. We did two exercises dealing with Family Budget and Student Budget . There was also a review of the extent each group has gone with group assignment.

WEEK 6 : REFLECTIONS ON MIS LECTURE AND LAB

WEEK 6 Lecture: The lecture was on cloud computing and relational database. This lecture delved more into cloud computing which the lecture swears by as the future of computing.We looked at the aspects of content delivery networks (CDNs), grid computing and green computing. The lecture covered using relational databases in creating, manipulating and organizing data. Microsoft Access is the database we are using for this topic The Lab: The lab covered LOOKUP and VLOOKUP functions in Excel. The LOOKUP function is used to search one column of data and find data in corresponding row. For example, in a supermarket warehouse, if you are searching a column of product IDs the LOOKUP function can find say Product number xxxxx in the ID column. Once that ID is found it can then return data from that same row. The VLOOKUP is used to search the first column of a spreadsheet for a value.
